Founded in 1873 Illinois Glass Company glass was identifiable by the diamond insignia makersmark located on the base of their bottles. Originally working with handblown glass, in 1915 they started using machines invented by Owens Bottle Machine Company making production faster, safer, more standardized. During this period they produced medicine bottles, alcohol bottles, soda bottles, ash trays, and more products. Owens BMC eventually bought the company for $19M in 1929- creating a new makers mark on the bottom of bottles to represent the Owens-Illinois Glass Company.
