Economic Research

The third portion of research studies conducted by the TRC is economic research. Which looks at businesses, economy, and mom and pop shops within predominantely Hispanic neighbhorhoods. Most of the economic research conducted by the TRC was focused on the city of San Antonio, and the city’s neighborhood, the “Westside.”

In the audio clip, Dr. Madrid discusses the benefits of putting out research on the “Westside” neighborhood Since the one of the goals of the TRC was to being media attention to the shortcomings of previous policymakers, lots of studies were published on the "Westside" area. Dr. Madrid confesses however, that the publications can become a double edged sword in the aftermath of their release.

This was a study published by Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and sponsored by the TRC. The report focused on the small businesses and economy of the “Westside” of San Antonio, with the purpose to share the data with lawmakers in the city to assist with the public policy in the area.
