Teacher Corps Model Programs

This federal initiative created as a partnership between Trinity University and Edgewood ISD worked to place Trinity undergraduate students in bilingual classrooms across the school district. Alumni such as Jessica Leslie participated in teacher preparation rooted in cultural responsiveness, community engagement, and local accountability. The model emphasized practice-based learning for real-world impact.

Emerging in the 1960s and 70s, the Teacher Corps model aimed to place aspiring educators in underserved schools while providing specialized training, including in bilingual education. At Trinity, the program offered a hands-on, justice-oriented framework that blended graduate coursework with community-based teaching experience, laying a foundation for more inclusive classroom practices.
