Chicano Culture Week and Other Events

With its new allocation of funds TACS were able to bring big names in the Chicano Movement to Trinity’s campus.  These speakers included, Jose Angel Gutierrez, Mario Compean, Rosie Castro and Reies Tijerina.

TACS would host annual Chicano day events, but the spring semester of 1975 saw the inaugural Chicano Culture Week.  The week-long event featured events such as ballet folklorico, poetry readings and lectures, film viewings, art exhibit and fashion shows. The event lasted until 1979 and continued as the Hispanic Culture Week when the group changed its name to the Trinity Association of Hispanic Student until 1981.
